Dr Manoj Shah has been involved with The Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital since its inception in 1997, and currently serves as the Vice Chairperson. He has been working closely with other Lions eye Hospitals across the country and has immensely contributed to restoring sight and helping the less fortunate with affordable eye care.
Dr Manoj Shah was active in starting the Lions Service Center in Kenya with the Lions Renal Unit, the Lions Dental Center, and the Lions Hearing Center, and has successfully initiated the first LCIF Lions H.I.V. Aids Center for Children in Africa. He has also been involved in establishing the first Lions Eye Bank in Africa, which is one of its kind in Sub Saharan Africa. This has also culminated in Dr Manoj setting up one of the most heart touching and successful Cornea Donations and Retrieval Program in Kenya. He has been the pioneer and visionary leader instrumental in setting up the first two Lions Diabetic care centers in Africa. Dr Manoj has been instrumental in initiating and leading The Sight For Kids Program in Kenya over the last 8 Years where more than 600,000 school going children have been screened and helped with various Eye Ailments including provision of Eye Glasses.
The prodigious work executed by this hospital is commendable. Almost 40% of the total eye work in Kenya is done by The Lions. Annually the hospital screens over 500,000 Patients, and Performs 40,000 Cataract surgeries. The hospital is equipped with Ultra modern Diagnostic and Surgical Equipment supported by 4 State of Art Operating Theaters. The hospital is one of the few hospitals offering specialized Glaucoma, Low Vision and Vitro Retinal Treatments.
